Cooking Safety

Billy and Peter,

Something to remind you when you are cooking:

1. Be careful of the heat.
    a.  Handle the hot lid or handles carefully with a piece of cloth or cotton kitchen gloves.
    b.  When prepare the ingredients, try to drain the excessive water away so that when you put the ingredients in the heated pot, no water will splash the hot oil back on you.

2. Tools. Be careful when use a sharp tool.
    a. When cut the hard or round ingredient such as carrot, make sure to cut a flat surface first, and then lay it on the flat side to cut the rest of the carrot. You might cut yourself when the carrot is round and rolls.
    b. Keep the knife away if you don’t need it. For example, put the knife in the sink instead of on the cutting board if you are done with it. Even better, wash it and put it away if you don’t need it any more.
    c.   When you clean the kitchen after cooking, be sure to handle the dangerous tools first, i.e.,the knife, hot pot….

3. When you are about to cook, always open a window.

4. Like the golden rule we taught you: Play safe and have fun.
